MINNEAPOLIS — Minneapolis’ first bus rapid transit station will open on Dec. 6 with an event promoted by direct mail to homes near bus routes that are impacted by the new station, Finance & Commerce reports.

The $4.5 million station features stair and elevator access to the freeway level and allows buses to remain on I-35W to pick up riders. Transit officials hope the station attracts more passengers to Metro Transit, since the agency will fall short of its 2010 goal of 80 million riders, according to a spokesperson.
