Following yesterday’s Boston Marathon bomb attacks, New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) and NJ Transit released statements about heightened security on the systems.
Yesterday, MTA police released the following statement on Twitter:
“The MTA Police Department, which patrols the LIRR & Metro-North, is increasing police patrols today in response to the Boston incident. NYPD is also on alert and indicated they will give additional attention to the subway system.”
Meanwhile NJ Transit’s spokesperson John Durso, Jr. released the following statement yesterday:
“As a result of today’s tragic events, NJ Transit is currently in a heightened state of alert. While there has been no specific threat made to our transit system at this time, NJ Transit police have deployed both uniformed and plainclothed officers to further patrol our system and keep our customers safe. NJ Transit police are also in constant communication with local, state and federal authorities. We are reminding our customers to observe their surroundings and report any suspicious or unusual activity to NJ Transit police. Again, that number is 1-888-TIPS-NJT.The hearts and thoughts of all of us at NJ Transit go out to those affected by this senseless tragedy.”
MTA, NJ Transit up security in wake of Boston bombing
Both agencies increased police patrols. NYPD gave additional attention to the subway system and NJ Transit reminded riders to report suspicious activity to the police.
