N.J. community college shuttle catching on — Bergen Community College

PARAMUS, N.J. — A two-bus shuttle service connecting Bergen Community College’s main campus in Paramus with its newer satellite in Lyndhurst appears to have found its audience, judging by ridership numbers provided by the county, The Record reported.

Midway through a three-year federal grant, the number of riders using the shuttle is on the rise. The average daily ridership over the last 12 months has increased to nearly 119 rides per day, according to the report.

It remains an open question as to whether the college and/or the county will pick up the entire tab for the college shuttle service when the three-year federal grant expires in November 2016. The grant, which cannot be renewed, provides $281,612 per year while the county pays about $70,000 annually to provide the two buses and drivers that operate the shuttle on weekdays when the college is in session, The Record reported.
