New York City transportation officials joined DaimlerChrysler executives Tuesday to celebrate the city's commitment to improving the quality of life for New Yorker's, with the recent purchase of a new hybrid bus fleet. The order, made by New York's Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA), of an additional 500 Orion VII hybrid diesel-electric buses manufactured by Orion Industries, a DaimlerChrysler Commercial Buses company, will increase New York's hybrid fleet to 825 by mid-2007. The ceremony was attended by N.Y. MTA Chairman Peter Kalikow, NYCT President Lawrence Reuter, other state, local and federal officials, as well as DaimlerChrysler board member Andreas Renschler. In addition, the MTA received the Blue Sky Award for its environmental efforts from California-based WestStart-CALSTART.
