N.Y. MTA to implement online direction service
Like the popular site MapQuest, users will be able to map the best transit routes around the metropolitan area.
The New York City Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) revealed plans to provide users with the ability to access online transit directions between any two places in the metropolitan area, according to The New York Sun.
The system will be called Trips123 and should become available within six months to a year. MTA officials said the system has been planned for the past several years and is currently being tested.
Similar to the popular Website MapQuest, users of Trips123 will be able to go online and plug in two locations to find the best ways to get between them.
Several other transit agencies in major cities already have Websites to provide transit directions to riders, but by including subways, buses, New Jersey Transit trains and buses, the Long Island Railroad, MetroNorth trains and PATH trains, MTA’s will become by far the largest of its kind.
