NEWARK — Dennis J. Martin, VP/GM, bus operations, and Robert M. Lavell, GM, rail operations, who were just appointed Wednesday at New Jersey Transit, detailed plans to replace single level railcars with multilevel cars and buy 1,388 new cruiser buses to replace those now on suburban routes, reported the Asbury Park Press.
The plan calls for NJ Transit to replace all of its single level railcars with multilevel cars, which will allow the agency to decrease the total number of railcars it owns from 1,124 to 1,050 cars by 2020, but increase the number of available seats by 6%.
