OKC awards Brookville Equipment $24.9M streetcar contract

OKLAHOMA CITY — The City Council agreed to a $24.9 million contract with Brookville Equipment Corp. for five "modern" streetcars that will run a significant portion of the downtown route powered by on-board batteries instead of overhead wires, The Oklahoman reports.
This is Oklahoma City's second dance with a streetcar manufacturer after the original preferred builder, INEKON Group a.s. of the Czech Republic, missed a deadline to submit financial guarantees. Oklahoma City plans to exercise its option to buy a sixth streetcar, bringing the total to $28.9 million.
Plans are to begin laying track downtown for the MAPS 3 streetcars later this year, with service set to begin in 2018. For the full story, click here.
