Report Finds Q4 New Motorcoach Sales Up 20%

The Foundation delivers the report each quarter with data collected from surveys of the major motorcoach manufacturers that sell vehicles in the U.S. and Canada.

Participating manufacturers sold 506 new and 177 pre-owned coaches, for a total of 683 motorcoaches, according to the Fourth Quarter 2024 Motorcoach Builders Survey, produced by the American Bus Association’s (ABA) research arm, the American Bus Association Foundation (ABAF).  

The Foundation delivers the report each quarter with data collected from surveys of the major motorcoach manufacturers that sell vehicles in the U.S. and Canada.

Apples to Apples Comparisons

The 684 coaches sold compared with 628 during the third quarter of 2023, with sales of new motorcoaches increasing by 8.8% compared to the same quarter in 2023 and the sale of pre-owned motorcoaches 103.4% higher. 

“The motorcoach, charter bus, and group travel industries are experiencing strong growth, with new motorcoach sales rising 20% year over year,” said Fred Ferguson, president and CEO of the ABA and the ABAF. “This surge reflects the increasing demand for safe, efficient, and sustainable group travel options. As our industry continues to expand, we remain committed to connecting people and communities through reliable transportation solutions that drive economic impact nationwide.”

According to the data, Q4 sales significantly improved compared with 2019. Q4 data for 2024 show only a 12.7% decrease compared to the same quarter in 2019 — the last report prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Sales to both private and public entities increased in Q4, increasing by 31.6 and 12.9%, respectively.

2024’s Final Sales Tally

Evaluating total sales in 2024, the ABAF’s report found new sales have increased by 20% compared to 2023 and are 45.8% lower than 2019 sales.

Pre-owned sales in 2024 are 4.2% lower than 2023 and 88.5% lower than 2019 sales of pre-owned motorcoaches.
