Siemens wins new contracts
Will build light rail vehicles for RTD, HRT.
Siemens was chosen to build 55 SD 160 light rail vehicles by the Regional Transportation District in Denver. The $184 million order is Siemens’ largest light rail vehicle contract ever, according to the company. The 55 new vehicles will complete Denver’s fleet of light rail cars.
Delivery of the vehicles is slated to begin in 2009 and go through 2012. Additionally, Norfolk, Va.-based Hampton Road Transit has contracted Siemens to build nine S70 low floor light rail vehicles. The contract is worth $31 million, with delivery scheduled to begin in June and go through November 2009.
All the vehicles will be built at Siemens Transportation Systems Inc. in Sacramento, Calif.
