WORCESTER, Mass. — Riders on the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority’s (MBTA) light and commuter Rail systems got to experience their first commute in winter weather on Tuesday after months of preparation by the agency, WHDH reports.

While the Red Line experienced some moderate delays on the Braintree branch because of a switch problem, all the other subway lines operated as scheduled, while people riding the commuter rail from Worcester reported no problems Tuesday and found the commuter rail a better alternative to driving on the slick roads, according to the report.

The MBTA spent the past few months winterizing its system, hoping the preparation with prevent a repeat of last year. The prep included replacement of 10 miles of the third on the Red Line and putting third rail heaters on the Orange Line. For the full story, click here.
