CHARLOTTE, N.C. — University of North Carolina Charlotte students asked Orange County Commissioners to pass a transit plan that would provide them with better access to more of the area, dailytarheel.com reported.

The plan would include increased bus services, improvements for existing bus stops, a rail station, and light rail plans between the university and Durham. It would be partially funded by a half-cent sales tax. A Triangle Transit official told dailytarheel.com the plan would use $6 million in the first five years for bus capital, such as bus shelters and bike racks and that the proposed plan would add 34,650 hours to existing bus schedules.
