The U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) announced the approval of 76 new infrastructure grants, totaling over $607 million in funding.
The awards represent the latest step in the Department’s ongoing efforts to address a large backlog of previously announced but unobligated infrastructure projects.
Since taking office, Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy has overseen the approval of 405 grants, valued at nearly $5 billion, accounting for approximately 13% of a reported total backlog, according to the USDOT.
“Under President Trump’s leadership, America is building again,” Secretary Duffy said in a statement, emphasizing the Department’s current focus on accelerating project delivery.
Officials noted that the agency has taken steps to streamline grant requirements and eliminate what it described as non-statutory provisions from earlier grant processes.
The approved grants span various transportation categories, including aviation, rail, highways, transit, and maritime infrastructure.
A breakdown of transportation-related projects include:
Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvements (CRISI): 1 project ($59 million)
Railroad Crossing Elimination Program: 12 projects ($36 million)
Buses and Bus Facilities Competitive Grants: 1 project ($12 million)
Low or No Emission Vehicle Program: 4 projects ($25 million)
Tribal Transit Program: 1 project ($412,000)
BUILD Grants: 2 projects ($19 million)
INFRA Grants: 2 projects ($188 million)
Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A): 15 projects ($3.4 million)

The Department said it is working to accelerate the delivery of projects nationwide, emphasizing core infrastructure.
In addition to funding road and bridge improvements, airport terminals, transit facilities, and port upgrades, several grants support environmental resilience and safety enhancements, including wildlife crossings and rail safety measures.
The USDOT has stated its intention to continue addressing the remaining grant backlog, and additional project announcements are expected in the coming months.
