This summer, West Virginia University’s (WVU) Personal Rapid Transit (PRT) system will continue to modernize through a variety of system upgrades and maintenance activities, such as the installation of the new train control infrastructure and the replacement of select electrical gear. To accomplish this, PRT operations shut down earlier this month and will resume normal operations Monday, Aug. 10.

Arlie Forman, associate director for the PRT, sees this as an opportunity to make much-needed improvements to the PRT that has moved more than 82 million passengers since opening in 1975.

“WVU is committed to a multi-phase modernization plan costing over $100 million to revitalize our PRT, thereby, improving system reliability and operational efficiencies,” he said.

During this period, the university will offer the Mountaineer Station shuttle service starting the week of May 18. This is a free service for WVU students.

In addition, the Mountain Line “Blue and Gold Connector” route will be operating Monday through Friday, with limited service on Saturdays and Sundays. WVU students and employees may ride the Mountain Line bus for free with a valid WVU ID.
