SEARCHEngineering and development set to begin on the first phase of the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project outside Washington, D.C.
Dulles Transit Partners LLC, a partnership between Washington Group International and Bechtel Infrastructure Corp., received a notice to proceed with development work and preliminary engineering for the first phase of the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project in northern Virginia.
Virginia's Department of Rail and Public Transportation gave the OK after receiving the Federal Transit Administration’s approval of a $59 million grant to begin engineering work on phase one of the project.
The first phase would extend the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority's system approximately 11 miles to Reston, Va. The complete proposed project would extend Metrorail 23 miles to Washington Dulles International Airport and beyond.
The preliminary engineering and development work for phase one will take 15 months and is expected to be completed in October 2005. A groundbreaking date for construction has not been set.
The sale has a purchase price of $164 million. The companies expect the transaction to close before the end of 2026, subject to customary conditions and regulatory approvals.
