Wilmington, Del., launches new trolley service

Local goverment and community leaders along with Delaware Department of Transportation and Delaware Transit Corporation officials introduced on Monday a new trolley service, Route 32, for the downtown Wilmington area. The Wilmington Trolley is a rubber-tired replica design vehicle manufactured by Chance Coach of Wichita, Kan., at a cost of $312,751 per unit. The new Wilmington Trolley, which replaces regular buses, will be able to seat up to 28 passengers with additional room for as many as 21 standing riders and two ADA wheelchair accessible seats. The downtown Route 32, with 39 runs daily, will be serviced using three trolleys during each operating day. The trolley service costs 25 cents and looks to carry passengers to eating, shopping and work destinations along all the stops between downtown's Rodney Square and Wilmington's revitalized riverfront.
