WASHINGTON, D.C. — Members of the American Bus Association (ABA) and the United Motorcoach Association (UMA) have approved the unification of the two associations. UMA members voted 207-30 in favor of consolidation, while ABA members approved the action in a 237-16 vote. The balloting began in March and concluded May 2. Both votes far exceeded a District of Columbia law requiring two-thirds of those members voting to ratify consolidation with another association. "This presents ABA and UMA with many opportunities to develop a new, stronger association that better serves our collective members," said Ron Eyre, ABA chairman and president of Eyre Bus and Travel in Glenelg, Md. A transition committee made up of four board members from both ABA and UMA will oversee the unification process.
