The Bay Area Rapid Transit District's (BART) 40th anniversary video produced for “BARTtv” and public distribution has been nominated for an Emmy — the region’s highest  broadcast award.

This year, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, Northern California Chapter (NATAS), received 674 English and 115 Spanish entries in 60 categories and nominated BARTtv’s 40th Anniversary segment in the ‘Historic and Cultural' special category.

The awards ceremony will be held June 15, 2013 in San Francisco.

“BART’s commemorative video was a team effort, featuring interviews from both our riders and employees — all recounting memories of the past 40 years,” BART GM Grace Crunican said. “This nomination underscores BARTtv’s productions are not only an asset for the public but are also valued by the news professionals in our community.”

This is the second time a BARTtv video has been in the running for a local news Emmy. In 2010, NATAS nominated BART’s Multimedia Producer Cheryl Stalter for a segment she produced called, “Busking on BART," a story that explained how our customers can obtain a free speech permit, told through the eyes of a Johnny Cash-like street musician. That segment was nominated under the Informational/Instructional - Feature Segment category.
