OAKLAND, Calif. — With construction of BART’s next extension into Silicon Valley on track to be completed by the end of the year, the San Francisco Chronicle reports the transit system may not have enough railcars to fully serve the two new stations it will serve.
BART needs at least 30 to 40 more cars to serve the extension. Its contract with Bombardier calls for 35 cars to be delivered by the end of the year, but at this point BART has received just 10, and problems discovered during testing have already led to delays in delivering the rest of the cars.
