Bombardier Transportation reached an agreement with TTA Systems LLC (TTA) to purchase its railcar overhaul division, as well as specific TTA railcar overhaul contracts. The move expands Bombardier's existing overhaul presence in North America. It currently has operational capabilities in Dansville, N.Y; San Diego; Thunder Bay, Ontario; and Sahagun, Mexico. TTA is a leading rebuilder and assembler of rail transit vehicles, systems and components for the North American market. The deal includes land, equipment and facilities at TTA's site in Kanona, N.Y., along with specific overhaul contracts. "There is a growing need for flexible, third-party rail services in this market as transit operators face mounting pressure to increase service efficiency and control costs," said Mike Hardt, vice president of Bombardier Transportation's North American rail services business. Hardt said Bombardier is developing its North American rail services capabilities in three primary areas: fleet maintenance and operations, materials solutions, and vehicle and component overhaul. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
