Preliminary Canadian public transit ridership statistics for the first six months of 2007 shows an increase of 3.2 percent as compared to the same January to June period in the previous year, according to the Canadian Urban Transit Association (CUTA).

"Public transit ridership for the first six months of 2007 continued to demonstrate strong growth, building further on a trend that has been underway since the mid-1990s," says CUTA President and CEO Michael Roschlau.
This growth in ridership represents an increase of nearly 27 million more trips taken by Canadians on public transit in the six month period.
