The failure of a hydraulic hose caused the fire in April that burned the back of a 60-foot articulated bus operated by Lane Transit District in Eugene, Ore. Approximately 20 passengers and the driver escaped uninjured after the bus caught fire on April 20. Investigators said the hose came loose from a improper crimp fitting, causing it to spray hydraulic fluid on the hot exhaust system. According to the Register-Guard, Lane Transit's buses have been retrofitted with hoses with heat-resistant sleeves.
