CHICAGO — The AP reported the operator of a Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) commuter train that derailed and scaled an escalator at the O’Hare International Airport station on Monday morning may have dozed off.
A union representative reported in a news conference that the woman said she had recently worked extensive overtime recently and was "extremely tired" at the time of the accident, according to the AP. For the full story, click here.
Meanwhile, the AP reported that the National Transportation Safety Board says that the train was traveling at a normal 25 mph before it crashed. An investigator told the AP that an automatic emergency braking system was activated on the tracks as the train traveled toward the platform, but it failed to stop the train.
