Congress’ joint resolution plan threatens FY 2007 transit funding
Resolution would fund FY 2007 transportation appropriations at FY 2006 levels.
Congress is set to complete unfinished fiscal year (FY) 2007 Appropriations bills, including FY 2007 appropriations for transportation, by passing a year-long joint resolution that would fund most federal programs at FY 2006 levels. If Congress goes through with its plan to fund transportation at FY 2006 levels, investment in the federal transit program would fall $470 million short of the levels authorized and guaranteed under SAFETEA-LU and federal highway funding would fall $3.4 billion, according to the American Public Transportation Association (APTA). Federal transit programs are currently operating under a continuing resolution at FY 2006 levels due that is set to expire Feb. 15.
