DALLAS — Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) is set to equip its light rail trains with security cameras that will include facial-recognition software, the Dallas Morning News reports.
DART has been eyeing security cameras on trains for about a decade. Calls for train cameras have often followed violent incidents or high-profile crimes on the light rail cars, which includes an incident last year when a man shot two fellow passengers on DART’s Red Line.

The region’s fixed-route system finished out the year with a total of 373.5 million rides. Adding 12.3 million rides over 2024 represents an increase that is equal to the annual transit ridership of Kansas City.
