DHS motorcoach security grantees announced
$10 million in federal funds for security goes to 25 private operators.
The American Bus Association (ABA) announced this week that all of the 25 intercity bus security grants awarded by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) went to ABA members who applied for bus security grants earlier this year.
These private bus operators will receive nearly $10 million in federal assistance to help them make security improvements to their operations.
To date, the private motorcoach industry has received nearly $50 million in bus security grants.
According to Pete Pantuso, president of ABA, the organization is pleased with the announcement. However, Pantuso said he is disappointed that TSA didn’t make these grants available to charter, tour and sightseeing operators as well.
The grant recipients can use the money for a variety of applications, including driver protection, passenger screening, terminal security upgrades, employee training and video surveillance.
