Greater Richmond Transit Co. announced the appointment of interim CEO Charles Mitchell, who will oversee the transition between CEOs. This is the second time in his career Mitchell has stepped in as interim CEO for GRTC.

Mitchell’s career at GRTC spanned several leadership roles since 1992, including serving as the director of maintenance and operations manager before retiring in 2015 as COO.

GRTC Board Chair Gary Armstrong says, “In Charlie, we are incredibly fortunate to have not only a professional with a wealth of transportation knowledge, but also a familiar face to the GRTC Family. I know the Board is confident GRTC’s progress and continued positive momentum are in steady hands during this transition period.”

Mitchell stated upon his arrival this week, “I am honored to be back here to again assist GRTC with a smooth transition between executives. I did this once before when Eldridge Coles retired, and I am excited to be a part of where GRTC is going. GRTC has completed several major initiatives since my retirement, and I look forward to contributing to further advancements in my time as interim CEO.”

GRTC will conduct a search and recruit for a new CEO, a process which is expected to take several months.
