N.C.-based Triangle Transit now offers Wi-Fi on its regional bus and express routes at no additional cost to riders.

Two newly-equipped Wi-Fi buses began service in February as part of an equipment test. Triangle Transit's decision to offer wireless follows requests from on-board surveys of riders and positive reaction to a wireless demonstration project in 2009.

Triangle Transit's newer buses will carry wireless Internet.  There is no additional cost to the rider and there is no registration. The only requirement is acceptance of the "Terms of Service Use."

The new service represents part of a continuing campaign to bring technological advances to current riders, potential riders and public transit.

Earlier this year, the agency introduced Google Transit for riders. The online service provides another option for finding starting and destination points, planning trips using a familiar tool. Real-time information at bus stops will be added later this year.
