New Flyer receives $423M in new bus orders
Company completes ramp-up process in anticipation.
New Flyer Industries Inc. has received $423 million in new bus orders for 35-, 40- and 60-foot vehicles with diesel, diesel-electric and compressed natural gas propulsion systems. The orders total 1,026 new buses, of which 821 are firm orders and 205 are options. Big orders included the exercising of options for 200 40-foot diesel buses by the Chicago Transit Authority and 231 40-foot diesel buses by the City of Edmonton Transit. Additionally, Vancouver, B.C.-based Translink placed a new order for a base quantity of 16 60-foot diesel buses with options for an additional 45, while the City and County of Honolulu placed a new order for a base quantity of nine 60-foot diesel buses with options for an additional 47.
During the second half of 2006, New Flyer ramped up production in its facilities by more than 25% to accommodate the anticipated increase in demand. The ramp-up in production was completed in the first quarter of 2007.
