NJ TRANSIT hearing focuses on PTC

NEWARK, N.J. — Lawmakers investigating September’s fatal NJ Transit crash in Hoboken focused on automated systems designed to prevent collisions and derailments, The Record reports.
Some lawmakers expressed concern as to whether NJ Transit would be able to implement positive train control by the federally mandated deadline of Dec. 31, 2018, with agency officials having said in the past that they are on track to complete installation by that date.
As of the end of September, however, the system has not been installed on any of the 440 trains required to have it.
Of 26 commuter rail agencies nationwide, only five will be fully equipped with this system by the end of 2016, testified Carolyn Hayward-Williams of the American Public Transport Association. For the full story, click here.
