OCTA releases job-generating plan
Ready to respond with $661 million in freeway projects; $102 million in bus transit projects; $128 million in rail transit projects and $1.1 billion in city and county public works projects.
Orange County, Calif., leaders unveiled an extensive list of transportation projects that could help put the local economy back on track and create nearly 56,000 new jobs.
Many of the projects could be under way in a matter of months if funding becomes available through any proposed economic recovery plan. Among them, the Orange County Transportation Authority’s (OCTA) $140 million widening of the Orange Freeway (SR-57), would create more than 5,000 jobs in less than a year.
“We have dozens of projects ready to go and Orange County is ready to work,” said OCTA Chairman Chris Norby, also the Fourth District supervisor. “Investing in our freeways, streets and roads will be critical to turning around the economy.”
With federal support, OCTA, cities and the County of Orange are ready to respond with $661 million in freeway projects; $102 million in bus transit projects; $128 million in rail transit projects and $1.1 billion in city and county public works projects.
