SEARCHFunding from a gasoline tax across the province will aid public transit agencies, particularly the Toronto Transit Commission.
Public transit systems across Ontario will share a total of $680 million over the next three years from a provincial gasoline tax, which will be raised in increments until 2006.
According to the Toronto Star, the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) will receive the majority of the funds, or $355.3 million.
Government officials said the move to devote 2 cents per liter of the gas tax to transit is part of a push to convince people to change their commuting habits.
The TTC could use the money in several ways, including refurbishing or replacing streetcars, building light rail or expanding subways.
The CAD facility enables NFI to complete full domestic production of heavy-duty transit vehicles, including zero-emission buses, in Winnipeg for the first time in 15 years.
