PARIS — Konbini reports that the Paris region’s transport union voted on a project to end free public transportation on days of high pollution and instead offer a one-off day pass that would cost about $4 on days when there’s a surge in pollution levels, rather than the normal cost of $18.39.
While making all public transport free for the day does help in reducing pollution from gas emissions, the union estimates that the loss of profit adds up to approximately $4.2 million per day for the region, which would be reduced to approximately $532,000 if the new plan were to be put in place.
