Q’Straint launched the world’s first automatic universal rearward facing wheelchair securement system for city transport and rail applications on the opening day of APTA’s Annual Meeting and Conference in San Diego.
The new system – known as the QTT-100 - is able to secure virtually all wheelchairs and does not need any direct external assistance to operate.
The QTT-100, which has patents pending, uses pneumatic power arms designed with an integrated air system to engage the wheelchair, making it exceptionally stable for transport. The wheelchair passenger is rearwards facing for travel, and will comply with directive EC2001/85, ADA requirements, the proposed ISO 10865-1 standard and other applicable regulations worldwide.
The system is remotely activated by the driver or train guard from his or her seat to ensure the safety of all passengers when not in use. Once in position, the wheelchair passenger simply presses a button to secure their wheelchair, which can also be done remotely by the driver or train guard if required. Upon arriving at the wheelchair passenger’s destination, the passenger presses the same button to release themselves and the system is deactivated by the driver or train guard.
The QTT-100 can be viewed at the company’s APTA booth, number 2245.
