The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA), which operates the Municipal Railway (Muni), announced the launch of a new webpage on SFMTA.com that tracks the availability of elevators throughout the Muni Metro system.

The page displays the elevator operational status, location of the elevator and time and date of the last update via the station agent. The new live feed is designed to improve Muni trip planning for people with disabilities, seniors and others who rely on Muni elevators to access Metro platforms.

As part of the 90 Day Muni Improvement Plan, the agency launched an external feed to clearly display the Muni elevator status at all Muni metro stations. The information will be updated in the backend by station agents, who used to have to call one another to update on the status of each elevator. SFMTA's new web-based interface allows station agents to enter updates in real time from their booths.

The new elevator status webpage is an improvement that was requested by key stakeholders, including SFMTA Board members and leaders of the disability communities. While a small project, it serves to vastly improve the Muni trip planning for people with disabilities, seniors, those with young children and anyone else who would benefit from use of the elevators.

The new feed is available at SFMTA.com/Elevators.
