SEARCHDenver’s Regional Transportation District (RTD) has ordered 55 light rail vehicles to accommodate the extensions planned in the city's west, south and central corridors.
Siemens signed a light rail vehicle contract with Regional Transportation District (RTD) in Denver worth $184 million, to build 55 SD160 light rail vehicles.
Siemens Transportation Systems Inc. (STS), in Sacramento, Calif., will manufacture the SD160 vehicles from start to finish.
The additional 55 light rail vehicles will meet future transportation needs of Denver’s west corridor; the extensions planned in FasTracks for the southwest, the southeast, the I-225 and the central corridors; and the enhancements to the southwest and southeast corridors planned in FasTracks.
The delivery of the new vehicles is scheduled to begin in 2009 and go through 2012.
The region’s fixed-route system finished out the year with a total of 373.5 million rides. Adding 12.3 million rides over 2024 represents an increase that is equal to the annual transit ridership of Kansas City.
