Wash.'s Pierce Transit to restore 59,000 service hours
Hours were cut during the recession a few years ago. The agency's board also approved the purchase of seven new buses at a total price of $4.5 million to meet its service goals.

LAKEWOOD, Wash. — The Pierce Transit Board of Commissioners voted to hire 35 employees to restore 59,000 of the service hours decimated during the recession by the end of 2017, The News Tribune reports.
The estimated personnel cost for this year is $1 million, with much of the spending to occur this summer and fall when hiring gears up for a 15,000-hour bump in bus service scheduled for September and another 34,000-hour increase for March 2017. The agency hopes to add another 10,000 hours on top of that by September 2017.
