WASHINGTON, D.C. — In a letter to senior staff, Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) GM Paul Wiedefeld said about 500 positions, including staff positions that are redundant or no longer deemed critical to the agency’s business interests, are being cut, dcist reports.

Last month, Wiedefeld fired 20 managers, including seven senior managers. With the new fiscal year beginning last week, he added that now is the time to “operate in a businesslike manner and achieve cost savings” for a new beginning.
