The American Public Transportation Association (APTA) announced the winners of the 2025 International Bus Roadeo, an event recognizing the skill and professionalism of public transit bus operators and maintenance crews.
This year’s competition took place in Austin, Texas, where 75 bus operators, 52 maintenance teams, and 43 combined teams demonstrated their abilities in various driving, safety, and repair scenarios.
From precision maneuvers to brake and door repairs, participants showcased their skills before a panel of judges.
“The APTA Bus Roadeo is a celebration of excellence, and this year’s winners have truly demonstrated the highest caliber of skill and professionalism in public transit operations,” said APTA President/CEO Paul P. Skoutelas. “The commitment to safety and customer service displayed by all participants sets a standard for the industry. Congratulations to all and thank you for advancing public transportation.”

First Place Operator: Matt Chomjak, Community Transit, Everett, Wash.
Second Place Operator: Douglas Rego – Oahu Transit Services, Inc., Honolulu.
Third Place Operator: Ramon Farfan – JTA.
First Place Maintenance Team: LA Metro.
Second Place Maintenance Team:VIA Metropolitan Transit, San Antonio.
Third Place Maintenance Team: Central Ohio Transit Authority (COTA), Columbus, Ohio.

Wabtec Vapor Door Winner: Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS), Charlotte, N.C.
MCI/New Flyer Multiplex Winner: Kitsap Transit, Bremerton, Wash.
