Chicago Transit Authority veteran Carter returns to lead agency

CHICAGO — Dorval Carter Jr., a former acting Chicago Transit Authority president whose career in public transit in Chicago and Washington has spanned more than 30 years, will be named the transit agency's new leader Tuesday, reported the Chicago Tribune.

Carter, who will become the first African-American CTA president, most recently served as Acting Chief of Staff to USDOT Secretary Anthony Foxx. He replaces Forrest Claypool, who is joining as chief of staff for Mayor Rahm Emanuel's second administration, according to the report.
Emanuel, who will formally announce the appointment, said in a statement that Carter is a seasoned professional "who already has a long and successful track record with CTA, and understands the opportunities and challenges it faces."
