Commuting Solutions, in collaboration with the City of Boulder, Boulder County, the City of Longmont, RTD, and CDOT, recently announced the completion of the CO 119 Branding and Wayfinding Project as part of the broader CO 119 Safety, Mobility, and Bikeway Project.
According to a company release, significant improvements are currently being constructed for the Diagonal Highway, the corridor connecting Boulder and Longmont, Colorado.
The CO 119 project will upgrade the transportation experience along the Diagonal Highway with improved intersection safety, a separated 9-mile-long bikeway with branded wayfinding signs, and an efficient Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) service.
“Our goal with the new branding and wayfinding system is to create a cohesive and user-friendly experience for all travelers along CO 119,” said Audrey DeBarros, executive director of Commuting Solutions. “This branding will not only establish a recognizable identity but will also foster ease of use and enhance safety as travelers explore moving between modes of transportation.”
Diagonal Bikeway and ‘Diagonal Flyer’ BRT Branding Revealed
The design integrates elements from the Front Range while drawing inspiration from the Flatiron Flyer brand, with blue and gold colors as a main feature. As a part of the process, the name of the CO 119 bikeway was determined to be the Diagonal Bikeway, and the RTD Bus Rapid Transit service will be branded the Diagonal Flyer.
According to the release, community engagement was essential to this project, which was gathered through online surveys and in-person pop-up events. Feedback depicted residents emphasizing a desire for modern and simple designs reflecting the area’s “distinct” identity.
The new branding will be integrated into wayfinding signs, BRT station architecture, and various elements along the CO 119 corridor.
Project construction is set to be completed in 2027, laying the groundwork for improved transportation options and future connections in the northwest metro area.
