Md. MTA MARC train sets monthly ridership mark
Ridership on the system was up 4.3% overall compared to the same month last year, with the MARC Penn Line leading the surge.
The Maryland Transit Administration’s (MTA) MARC Train service set a new record for ridership in April 2013.
Ridership on the Penn, Camden and Brunswick Lines reached 38,112 last month. The previous record high for the commuter train service was 37,034 set in November 2012.
“The growth in ridership reflects Governor O’Malley’s investment in new equipment, and our commitment to improved performance. Both of those factors contributed to the record ridership we’re experiencing.” MTA Administrator Ralign T. Wells said.
Ridership on the system was up 4.3% overall compared to the same month last year, with the MARC Penn Line leading the surge. Ridership on the Penn Line was up 5.4%. The Brunswick Line jumped 4.4%, while the Camden Line experienced a 2.1% decline.
The Penn Line carries approximately 25,512 daily passengers. The Brunswick Line has approximately 8,149 daily passengers. The Camden Line carries approximately 4,451 passengers on a daily basis.
MARC trains arrived on schedule approximately 95% of the time during the month of April.
