HARTFORD, Conn. – Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) is calling for more security and safety improvements on public transportation and passenger rail systems in the wake of an attempted terrorist attack on a Paris-bound train last week, the CTPost reported.

Blumenthal made his first the call for more security in May during the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) administrator’s confirmation hearing. He said the security and safety enhancement were mandated by Congress in 2007, but are still not implemented.

At a speech in Hartford, Blumental said he will release a letter co-signed by Sen. Cory A. Booker (D-NJ) to TSA calling for implementation of security requirements, and he will highlight the need to ensure that adequate safety and security protections are in place for the tens of millions of people who rely on the nation’s public transportation systems every day.
