SAN FRANCISCO — The San Francisco County Transportation Authority will vote on whether to suspend $9.7 million in funding for the Transbay Transit Center, while the chairman also wants to replace the independent government agency that has managed the project since 2001, the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

The $2.2 billion building was shuttered in September, after workers found fissures in two steel beams that support the bus deck and rooftop park. Supervisors are raising doubts about whether the Transbay Joint Powers Authority — the agency in charge of the center and rail extension — is the appropriate body to oversee the next phase.

If approved, the resolution would withhold funding until the City Controller evaluates the Joint Powers Authority’s management and delivery of the center, and Transportation Authority staff review alternative forms of governance for the downtown extension of Caltrain. For the full story, click here.
