Underthe direction of U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy, the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) recently announced that grant recipients of FTA’s Low or No Emission Grant Program will now have the flexibility to request to change their project proposals from “no emissions” to “low emissions” technology.

According to a USDOT release, Secretary Duffy heard concerns from “both sides of the aisle” about limitations and challenges associated with zero-emission technology and how the Green New Deal impacts public transit. The subsequent change for grant recipients allows for more flexibility in purchasing reliable and cost-effective technology.

“I’m proud to provide our transit operators the flexibility to use all sources of American Energy to power our transit infrastructure and focus on building safe and reliable buses for American commuters,” Secretary Duffy said.

“The purpose of these grants is to help fund reliable mobility for Americans and meet public demand. [...] FTA grant recipients asked for this flexibility, and Secretary Duffy delivered,” said FTA Senior Advisor Marc Molinaro.

Grant recipients interested in making a zero-emission vehicle or zero-emission infrastructure project change request, or requesting reconsideration of a previously denied request, should contact their FTA Regional Office and submit a written request detailing the requested change and the reason(s) why.
