N.C.'s CATS to drop 15% discount on 10-day passes — CATS

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) is planning to drop a 15% discount on 10-day bus passes, but may reconsider that move for seniors and the disabled after criticism, reports The Charlotte Observer.

CATS has offered the discount on 10-ride passes for several years, but the Metropolitan Transit Commission (MTC), which oversees operations, voted in April to eliminate the discount beginning July 1. The move was an effort to help balance a projected $2.8 million budget shortfall.

After advocates have voiced their displeasure about the program being discontinued, the MTC could vote at its June 22 meeting to keep the 15% discount for the elderly and disabled. For the full story, click here.
