New Flyer of America Inc. launched its Anniston Workforce Development Program (AWDP), a local program under the Community Benefits Framework (CBF), a national workforce development initiative announced by New Flyer and its partner the Transportation Diversity Council (TDC) earlier this year.

The AWDP includes commitments on wages and benefits, training and development, fulfillment of diversity and hiring objectives, and pre-apprenticeship and apprenticeship programs. Other parts of the program include the launch of an employee engagement committee; commitment to disadvantaged business enterprise; and partnership with community-based organizations on recruitment.

As a result of the AWDP, New Flyer has strengthened its local community outreach and recruitment capacity, committing to the hiring of underserved or underrepresented individuals.

Having launched the CBF in March 2020, New Flyer has expanded its direction and support of local initiatives that benefit people and communities. For the AWDP, this includes partner alliance development, now underway with local community-based organizations such as, but not limited to the Alabama Career Center System, Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services, Carver Community Center, and East AlabamaWorks.

The initiative also expands New Flyer’s partnership with TDC, which first started in 2017.
