PHILADELPHIA — Philadelphia’s Suburban Station is being transformed into a “Hub of Hope” for those experiencing homelessness, thanks to a partnership between the City of Philadelphia and the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA), Philadelphia Weekly reported.
The City and SEPTA co-wrote a $1.4 million check for Project HOME, a homeless advocacy service, to help construct the permanent “Hub of Hope,” which is slated to open in January.
Last year, around 350 people congregated in its concourse during winter months, according to city officials, which prompted which prompted the agency and the City to work with Project HOME to create a permanent facility offering weekend meals and special services, according to the Philadelphia Weekly.
