U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy and Special Advisor Andy Byford recently announced that the New York Penn Station “Transformation” Project will begin construction by the end of 2027.

To help jumpstart the schedule, Secretary Duffy also announced that the Department of Transportation will provide Amtrak with nearly $43 million in federal grant funding.

"We will transform Penn Station into a world-class transit hub that is beautiful, safe, and clean," Duffy said. "The aggressive schedule we've outlined will ensure we are back on track."

"The transformation of New York Penn Station is underway, and USDOT and Amtrak are strongly committed to beginning construction by the end of 2027," Byford said.

According to a release, to meet this timeline, Byford will immediately begin the process to solicit a master developer, which will act as a key player in the public-private partnership model to transform Penn Station.

The formal process is expected to commence by the end of October 2025, with a selection made by the end of May 2026. A detailed breakdown of the project schedule is available here.
