CATS Microtransit Service

CATS Micro operates point-to-point within a designated zone and will initially serve the Northern Mecklenburg County area.

The new service will be provided using CATS Micro branded vehicles.

Leading Through Partnerships

CATS has two partners that are assisting in bringing this service to Northern Mecklenburg County.

MV Transportation is providing turnkey service operations for CATS Micro, while the Spare trip booking tool will be seamlessly integrated into the CATS-Pass app to allow riders to book trips in the app.

“CATS is excited to offer a new and innovative transit option to our passengers,” CATS’ Chief Administrative Officer Elizabeth Presutti said. “The partnership with Spare and MV transportation marks a significant step forward in enhancing mobility options for our northern towns. By introducing on-demand microtransit services, we're providing our residents with flexible and convenient transportation solutions that seamlessly integrate with our existing transit network and better connect the community.”

Microtransit is one of the key initiatives outlined in the “Envision My Ride: Bus Priority Study,” adopted by the Metropolitan Transit Commission in May 2022. It is part of the larger goal to build a further reliable, connected, and accessible mobility network for the CATS service area.
